Urban Memmingen

URBAN GmbH & Co. Maschinenbau KG, founded in 1947 by Josef Urban as an electrical installation business with a retail store in Memmingen, quickly developed into a specialist for window manufacturing technology. The location was expanded in 1950 with the purchase of a property, including a warehouse and repair hall. In 1967, the first single-head welding machine for plastic windows was created, followed two years later by the move to Dornierstraße 5, which was accompanied by a growing number of employees and a wider range of products. In the 1970s, Urban drove progress forward with automatic multi-head welding machines and cleaning technology. The AKS-4000 series was developed in 1972, doubling welding capacity by reducing welding times. In the following decades, production facilities were added in Forchach (Tyrol) and Fredericton (Canada) – Urban was active worldwide. In 1999, the company achieved the status of market leader in mechanical engineering for plastic window production. The current scope of activities includes the design, manufacture, and maintenance of production lines and accessories for windows, such as welding and cleaning machines, cutting systems, bar processing, and operational equipment. Urban is one of Germany's leading family-owned businesses.

Urban Forchach

URBAN Maschinenbau GmbH in Forchach was founded in 1982 in Tyrol as a supplier to meet the growing needs of the parent company Urban GmbH & Co. Maschinenbau KG from Memmingen. With innovation and a pioneering spirit, independently developed drilling and milling centers as well as CNC machining centers for long-part processing, screw and feed systems were created – initially primarily as self-help for production in Memmingen. Over time, the company grew: Today, around 80 to 110 employees work in Forchach and manufacture high-precision milled parts, welded constructions, sheet metal parts, aluminum castings, flame-cut parts, as well as automatic screwdrivers and profile processing centers for window production lines. The strategic focus on the window industry led to the discontinuation of the production of our own metal processing machines – service for these machines will continue. The Forchach branch is now one of the independent divisions of the Urban Group, complemented by strong manufacturing depth, fast response times thanks to high in-house production, and an important position within the international window construction machinery group.
