Founded in Tyrol in 1982 as a supplier to meet the growing demand of its parent company, Urban GmbH & Co. Maschinenbau KG, based in Memmingen.
Premium metalwork for over 40 years
Driven by innovation and a pioneering spirit, the company independently developed drilling and milling centers, as well as CNC machining centers for machining long parts, screw systems, and feeding systems—initially primarily to support its own production in Memmingen.
Over time, the plant expanded: Today, approximately 80 to 110 employees work in Forchach, manufacturing high-precision milled parts, welded structures, sheet metal parts, aluminum castings, and flame-cut parts, as well as automatic screwdrivers and profile machining centers for window production lines.
The strategic focus on the window industry led to the discontinuation of in-house production of metalworking machines—though service for these machines continues. The Forchach branch is now one of the independent divisions of the Urban Group, characterized by a high degree of vertical integration, rapid responsiveness thanks to a high level of in-house production, and a key position within the international window manufacturing machinery group.
Change in Direction at URBAN Metall — 100% focus on the window manufacturing industry
Urban Maschinenbau GmbH in Forchach is positioning itself for the future and will now focus 100% on the window manufacturing industry. As part of this realignment, the company will no longer produce or sell its own metalworking machines, such as CNC milling machines and profile machining centers.
Service for these machines will continue as before. This decision is primarily due to the strong performance of the PVC window industry and the resulting high capacity utilization at the parent company, Urban GmbH & Co. Maschinenbau KG, based in Memmingen (Bavaria).
“We already generate 80 to 90 percent of our revenue from products and machine components for our parent company in Memmingen. Demand here has been very high for years because Urban holds a leading position, particularly in high-end production lines featuring welding and weld bead finishing machines for the PVC industry. So it only makes sense for us to join forces in Forchach and focus on this thriving industry,” says Martin Urban, managing director of Urban Maschinenbau GmbH.
High production capacity is guaranteed, because not only is there a long waiting list for the high-end welding machines of the new CUT generation developed by Urban in Memmingen, but products from Forchach destined for North America are also in high demand.
“With the reorganization in Forchach, we can increase productivity and serve our international customers in the window manufacturing industry even better than before. It’s a win-win situation for everyone,” explains Martin Urban.
