URBAN GmbH & Co. Maschinenbau KG, founded in 1947 by Josef Urban as an electrical contracting business with a retail store in Memmingen, quickly developed into a specialist in window manufacturing technology.
Quality, Service, and Expertise in Mechanical Engineering for Over 60 Years
As early as 1950, the facility was expanded through the purchase of a property that included a warehouse and repair shop. In 1967, the first single-head welding machine for plastic windows was developed, and two years later, the company moved to Dornierstraße 5—along with a growing workforce and product range.
In the 1970s, Urban drove progress forward with automatic multi-head welding machines and coating technology. In 1972, the AKS-4000 series was developed, which doubled welding capacity thanks to shorter welding times. In the decades that followed, production facilities were added in Forchach (Tyrol) and Fredericton (Canada)—Urban was active worldwide.
In 1999, the company became the market leader in mechanical engineering for plastic window production. Today, its business activities include the design, manufacture, and support of production lines and accessories for windows, such as welding and finishing machines, cutting systems, profile processing equipment, and plant facilities. Urban is one of Germany’s leading family-owned companies.
